Has anyone seen any ARRA (Stimulus) incentives for small and independent pharmacist who wish to accept ePrescribing orders?

This week I talked with two local pharmacists. One using Nrx QS/1 likes it generally but complains that the current system deliveres orders that do not have a stated medication strength, or directions for the patient, or drug information. One would think that the ePrescribing software would ensure that this information is captured and properly delivered to the pharmacy so they do not have to do what they have always done: pick up the phone and get clarification. This is just a high tech way of delivering traditional problems!

The second pharmacist wouldn't consider the software because of the cost. His reimbursement was just recently cut from $2.25/prescribtion was cut to $1.75 and he was not going to give away another $0.25/prescribtion plus the cost of purchasing and maintaining the necessary hardware and software.

Overall, I see some major hurdles ahead.
1) Make ePrescribing and the pharmacy systems a lot more user friendly and cheap.
2) Eliminate dumb errors at the source.
3) Increase bidirectional communications between the pharmacy and the prescribing systems.

DEA regulations prohibiting electronic communication of schedule II-V drugs is a major issue. It's another example of legislation not keeping up with technology. I think it will be resolved eventually, but for now it is a source of frustration.
